Featured Not-For-Profits

This year Adrian Brien Alfa Romeo was a major supporter of the “All Alfa Romeo Day” held on Sunday the 16th of April 2016 at the Wigley Reserve, ANZAC Highway, Glenelg incorporating a traditional “Alfas in clover show n shine”.

All Alfa Romeo Day is an annual event organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners’ Club Australia – South Australian Division (AROCA SA).

AROCA SA is a vibrant and successful club with a current membership of around 200 and in the last twelve months there has been an influx of new members. Alfa Romeos owned by members range from current models to historic models with 1970s 105 series and 1980s GTVs particularly well represented.

The club has a mix of meetings, social and competitive events.

Well attended monthly meetings are held at the Sporting Car Club in Unley, usually with a guest speaker and a club shop with a wide range of Alfa Romeo merchandise is open at every meeting.

The club holds an Annual Dinner, usually in July; a Christmas function in December; and they usually have a film night at Wallis Cinemas once a year.

Sunday Runs are held regularly and an Economy Run is held once a year.

On the competition front AROCA SA is affiliated with the Marque Sports Car Club (MSCA) and Sprint Meetings are held several times a year at the Mallala motor racing circuit. This gives club members the opportunity to compete in well organised motor racing events sanctioned by CAMS.

Driver Training days are also held occasionally at the Mallala circuit.

“Le Automobili Alfa” is the Club’s Magazine. Published once a month, it keeps members posted on what is happening within the club and provides Alfa Romeo articles, news and historical notes. The magazine also has a buy, sell and exchange section that is free to club members. Businesses can advertise in the magazine by buying a half or full page or by putting in their business card.

The Alfa Romeo Owners Clubs of Australia are affiliated with one another via a National Council that meets after an annual national gathering (Alfesta) held alternately in each state.

Each year since 2007, the Glenelg Bowling Club has hosted a lawn bowls tournament open to all bowlers which attracts 110 – 120 bowlers from all over Adelaide. During this time the tournament has been firmly established on the bowls calendar as “Kia Day” and is recognised as one of the major tournaments and one to participate in.

Since it’s establishment, Adtrans Kia and now Adrian Brien Kia, have sponsored prize money and staff have been available to help promote their car brands by their attendance and presence of vehicles for display. There is a perpetual Adrian Brien Kia trophy presented to the winners each year which is most sought after.

This year they served just under 100 people who came from bowling clubs all over Adelaide.

Animals Saved From Injury And Pain – SAVEM Pinery Bushfires Update

Featured Not-For-Profits

This update was sent to us recently by our friends at SAVEM who we have mentioned a few times before in the past because of their SAVEM Jeep Compass.

Related articles:

This time around they were involved with the recent Pinery Bushfires.

In this case, two teams of volunteer vets and vet nurses responded to animals injured in the fires.

“Some people think that the kind of work that we do is all warm and fuzzy and plucking furry animals from the flames, but it is not like that at all,” Dr Rachel Westcott said.

Her team was tasked to check on a resident’s pets and look for an injured kangaroo with joey.

Upon arrival at the property, the aftermath of the fire was clearly visible.

On one side of the road the earth is scorched black, the other — bar one burnt fence post — remained untouched.

About SCOSA

SCOSA currently operates 12 client Hubs throughout Adelaide and regional South Australia, providing 8,000 hours of services each week to hundreds of South Australians living with disabilities. Their clients include young people living with cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), down syndrome, acquired brain injury and a range of other physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

Their Hubs act as a base where clients can engage in programs that promote the development of independent living skills, encourage choice and socialisation, and provide educational, leisure and recreational activities. SCOSA facilitates greater participation in the community with many of the activities taking place outside of the Hubs, offering people the opportunity to learn and develop in a non-institutionalised environment.
